Welcome to our Free Competency Tests
Here you can determine your Student’s Current Level of Mathematical Mastery, as well as determine which Level in the Math-U-See Curriculum they need to commence to further their Mastery of Mathematics.
These Competency Tests were created for the benefit of the Teacher and the Student, to determine what Level of mathematics the Student has mastered so they will know in which book to begin. As the Student does a Test, watch them to observe how confident they are in their maths knowledge.
For example, if a student gets the correct answer to an addition problem in the Alpha Competency Test, but counts on his fingers to find the answer, then he needs to cover this material again.
We recommend you have each student begin at the Alpha Competency Test, and progress through each level until they begin to struggle.
If they are having difficulty with a particular test, this tells you that it is the level they need to begin , and that they need to master these lessons before they can truly progress to, and understand, any of the following levels.
For example, if they are having difficulty with the Division problems in the Delta Competency Test, they should begin in the Delta level, since this is where that concept is presented.
However, if they pass the Delta exam, move on to the next test which would be Epsilon.
The Competency Tests are made up of two parts. The first part tests computation skills, while the second part (with word problems, or life questions ) focuses on thinking skills, and tests the student’s understanding of the concepts and whether they know when – and how- to apply the material to their everyday life.
